Because some of our group had knee problems, we took an easy route to the Jan Thiel Salt Pans. Starting at the end of Kaya Damasco, we followed a narrow trail (trailhead is marked by a white stone) to the salt pans. This round hike took us about one hour.
A double "Bol" cactus. Rare on Curaçao, more common on Bonaire.
The Jan Thiel salt pans
We crossed the salt pans, following one of the dirt-roads that lead through the pans.
Waterbirds searching for food.
Pillowed foam, tastes salty.
A flock of parakeet.
A Colombian Parrot.
We walked to the other side of the salt pans and circled back to the trail to Kaya Damasco.
