Introduction - introductie

This blog is not a trail guide. It is about the beauty and the diversity of Curaçao.
There are dry months and wet months, days with wind or storm or no breeze at all.
Due to the weather conditions, you may find he trails to be very different from what our pictures show.

Most recent hikes are described in Dutch / Nederlands (kijk voor de laatste wandelingen in het blogarchief). De paden veranderen snel, ze groeien dicht of worden gesloten. Er komen ook nieuwe routes bij.

The other entrees are in English. Our main object is to show the beauty of the island. We cannot always give exact directions of trail heads or ends.
Many trails change, closed by owners, or overgrown. . the maintenance depends on
enthusiastic volunteers. Our group tries out new trails too.

Important: never go hike alone! When visiting popular places like the Salt pans of Jan Kok or Ascencion Bay don't get out of your car unless other people are there. Leave money, cards and other valuables at the Hotel.
If you have no one to come with you, take a hiking tour with a guide. Please read the page with
tips and info
!
Do not touch the
Manzanilla tree or its leaves and apples. They are poisonous.
On all photos copyright of the owners.

Enjoy Hiking Curaçao!

Visit to Landhuis Bloemhof and restaurant “Ten”

Today a short walk in the garden of Plantation Bloemhof. There is art, there is the Cathedral and there is coffee!

Walking from this cozy restaurant, you find old trees and art.

The Cathedral, made of supiñas of the Wabi tree:

De Cathedraal van Herman van Bergen

And there is a lot of art in the historical plantation home, but also in the garden.

Local artist Hortense Brown works here to create wonderful and meaningful sculptures.

Peeping through one sculpture to discover more :-)

Not hiking? Visit a Plantation house! (Landhuis)

San Juan, family home.

There used to be many Plantation houses on the island of Curaçao. Due to neglect, some have disappeared, are overgrown by shrubs and trees or have their walls still standing, but their roofs have gone.
Santa Catharina, ruin.

Nevertheless, there still are quite a few houses that have been restored. Some are family houses, some are galleries, some are museums, some are restaurants or offer bed&Breakfast.

If not going for a hike, visit to a plantation house. Here are the websites:

Plantation houses that can be visited are:

Landhuis Ascencion, every first Sunday of the month. Drinks, snacks, arts&crafts, music. From 11 am to 1 pm. Lots of hiking trails.

Landhuis Bloemhof. A gallery with a garden. Exhibitions in or around the house.

In the garden you'll find the Cathedral of Thorns, an art project by artist Herman van Bergen.

Landhuis Daniël, hotel and restaurant.

Landhuis Dokterstuin, restaurant.
Landhuis Habaai, gallery
with a wonderful Tea garden.

Landhuis Klein Santa Martha, restaurant and bed&breakfast, with wonderful views.

Landhuis Knip (in Dutch). Tulamuseum. Views all around.

Landhuis Savonet, a museum at the entrance of the national park Christoffelpark

Landhuis San Juan can not be visited, but there are hiking trails and several boca's (small bay) on the plantation. Also a great place for diving.

Landhuis Groot Santa Martha. Local crafts and history.

Landhuis Ascencion - Krabbenbos - Baai

Our hiking group walks at Plantation Ascencion, through the Krabbenbos (forest of crabs), along the bay with turtles, and climbs up the rocks to beautiful views.
Turning back to Plantation Ascencion via a small path behind the Kas di Palu Maishi.
