Corona-tochtjes. COVID-19 hikes.

During these long months of lockdown, without beach-parties or any other group events, the two of us  visit the National parks of Curaçao. Shete Boka. The seven boca’s is first choice.

We’ll upload photos of rolling waves, the trails and maybe an animal here or there.

Shete Boca. 

Wandelverslag Mishe, 20-01-2019

Mishe, Miesje.

Het verzamelen hier hield wel wat voeten in aarde, maar toen waren we er ook klaar voor. Om ruim vijf voor vier vertrokken we naar de Boca's.  

De boca's met hun prachtige natuurvormen. De grillige rotsenoverhang was van een onnatuurlijke schoonheid. Het waterschouwspel intrigeerde. Geen wandelaar kon zeggen, dat het hem niets deed. De oh en de ah's waren niet van de lucht. 

Bij boca Manzalinna stond een bord, waarop lang geleden stond, toen je het nog lezen kon, dat hier schildpadden nestelden. We hebben ze niet zien nestelen, maar daar waren we waarschijnlijk te vroeg voor. Ze ploeteren het strand op bij voorkeur s'nachts.

Bij boca Platee mochten we allerlei figuren van keien aanschouwen. Zelfs de namen van de artiesten stonden keihard in het zand om maar niet te vergeten.

 Kortelyn

De volgende boca was Kortelyn. Hier hebben de parkwachters een uitbreiding gedaan. 

De trappen naar boven waren een uitkomst, nu hoefde je niet om die puntige rotsblokken te lopen en kon je gelijk naar boven. Ik was blij verrast om die uitbreiding, want die gaf een zijarm van de boca bloot, waardoor je onder een natuurlijke brug doorkeek. 

Een houten trap was er gemaakt om je naar beneden te begeven  Een extra uitzicht had je op de natuurlijke brug en het aanrollende water.

Een evenement om nooit te vergeten. We konden er geen genoeg van krijgen. Vadertje tijd hield hier geen rekening mee. 

  

Terug naar Miesje, boca Djegu konden we wel vergeten, daar we dan weer in het donker moesten lopen en die arme battrijen hadden al genoeg hun best gedaan.

De wandelalbums zullen wel de nodige aanvulling hebben gehad.

Al met al een prachtige koele voettocht, want het waaide flink.

Boca Pistol

Boca Pistol is part of the Shete Boca National Park. Northwest coast. (shete = 7)

The Boca Pistol is the Curaçao version of Old Faithful, Yellowstone,WY.

Meanwhile, at the North Coast

While our hiking group was following trails along the South coast (starting at Varssenbaai), we went to the National Park "Shete Boca", the seven bays.

At the entrance there is a small fee to pay, to support Carmabi, the Caribbean Research and Management of Biodiversity, that takes care of many bays and parks on the island.
At the little restaurant, famous for its pancakes, is a parking place. Trails can be done by foot or by car.

Since we had small children with us, we drove to Boca Pistol, where the waves are hammering the North side of the island (we loose about 3cm. each year; compensated by some growth at the South side).

The boca is named after the booming sound that the waves make, bumping into caves and coming out like an explosion, with a lot of noise, throwing water into the air.

Before leaving the park we went to another boca, with the Natural bridge. See the pictures!
Every boca is a photo opportunity the visitor should not miss.
